But the angel said … “Do not be afraid …”
~ Luke 1:13, LEB ~
What do you seek? A life of righteousness? Healing? Restoration of faith? Deeper and more meaningful relationships? How about some relief from financial stress? Struggling to find employment? What fears cause you from stepping out to live such a deeply committed life? What fears cause you to stumble and prevent you from coming unto Christ and following Him?
Fear prevents us from our commitment to living out a mindful crucified Christian life. It prevents us from experiencing an abundant life Christ promised. Why do we waste precious time and energy attempting to figure out what others think of us? How do others not consider our own personal rights and privileges? Obligations and responsibilities consume us as we struggle to live a life, we feel deserving to live. Maybe we blame people for our own misfortunes. Perchance we complain about our own personal inadequacies and struggles and lack compassion for others who face their own adversity. Fear motivates us to believe we are powerful enough to control others, the way they think, how they feel, and attempt to conform them to our own sense of happiness.
Fear denies the reality of how powerless each one of us are in managing our own affairs and life.
Facing our fears helps us grow in spiritual wisdom. And it stems from humility and contrition of heart so that we surrender to our Heavenly Father’s will. Spiritual wisdom calls us to step out of the illusion of control because we give away our power and will over our own lives. Our own desires. It calls us to relinquish the plans for a life we feel deserving of. Healthy surrender of our own personal will, walking away and letting go, we begin to experience the true freedom found in Christ alone.
Spiritual wisdom also prevents us from wanting to fix others so that we feel comfortable. Instead, it calls our own personal attention to take care of our own personal needs through processes of making healthy choices that align with our Heavenly Father’s will. And when we humble ourselves, surrender our will and desires, and let go of our own personal musts and expectations – we begin to see the results of the promised life of abundance found through Christ.
This spiritual wisdom is found through the unfolding process of experiencing God as we strive to live according to His word. It is not about learning what those lessons are in living a mindful crucified Christian life. It is living and applying them as genuine disciples. Because living a mindful and crucified Christian life requires deep commitment to learn from the Master – Jesus Christ.

Today’s Thought and Reminder
Living a mindful crucified life through Jesus Christ means we overcome those fears that cause us to stumble and prevent us from seeking our Heavenly Father’s will.
The message of “Do not be afraid” is for us today. For Zacharias – the Angel Gabriel says to not be afraid since his prayers have been heard and he shall receive the promised blessing he had waited so long for.
“Do not be afraid” is for us today because, like Mary, we have found favor with God as we draw close to Him and seek out to live according to His will and purpose.
“Do not be afraid” is for us to understand the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ brings great joy into our own hearts and minds.
