In him was life, and the life was the light of humanity.
~ John 1:4, LEB ~
How am I able to become aware of how my own acceptance of an unacceptable situation is a reflection of my own self-will and desire? Is my own will and attitude going to achieve any meaningful insight? Am I seeking ways, through my own resources, understanding, and selfish means, whereby I am able to achieve any good results? Or will such attitude and behavior consistently produce disappointment, discouragement, and a sense of failing? Furthermore, how is my own belief in my ability to manipulate situations that work out in my own personal favor?
Truth be told – I am doing myself a complete disservice when I attempt to outmaneuver the will of my Heavenly Father at every turn. I am being quite unfair in not allowing Him to have power and authority over my own life because I feel there is no real compelling reason to do so. Because I falsely believe in the idea that I am a good person deserving of a good life. I’ve convinced myself that it is not up to anyone else to make a good life for me. That I must go at it alone and do what I am capable of doing for myself. Such thinking is deceptive and dishonest. Because, in attempting to find my life meaning and purpose – I inevitably lose it.
True life and light come through Jesus Christ. And it only comes by me denying myself and taking up my cross to follow Him. To come unto Him and apply his teachings and truths into my own life. To submit myself over to the will and care of my Heavenly Father. For it is losing my life through Christ whereby I am able to save it through Christ.

Since Christ is the true life and light of humanity – it reveals those good qualities that lie within me. How I choose to use this truth determines the way my life is led. Yet, it is quite easy to get caught up in my own thoughts and worry about how I am living for myself rather than focusing on how I am living through Christ. Either I am falling into the past regrets, shame, and guilt that I refuse to lay down. Or I am living in the future and worrying about the possibilities that cause distraction to the reality of what is happening in the present.
Instead, the life and light of Christ transforms me, and each one of us who come unto Christ and follow Him in true discipleship, into the kind of person my Heavenly Father desires of me. It is in today’s moment where I learn to grow in faith.
Through the life and light of Christ, I am able to navigate necessary change in a fast-paced and everyday life. My own personal circumstances, among many things, change. However, Heavenly Father’s will and purpose does not change and is eternal.
All I am required to do is place my faith, trust, and life in God’s care. Christ is the unmoving rock upon which I build a solid foundation of a mindful and crucified Christian life.
Today’s Thought and Reminder
The gospel that is preached through Jesus Christ brings the life and light that illuminates the path of righteousness. It is this path we are seeking to find. For some of us – the light may be quite dim. For others, it may be quite bright. Regardless, the more we place our faith and trust in Christ, denying ourselves, and taking up our cross and following Him – our path will be illuminated. Through Christ, we will find the life that our Heavenly Father has planned for us.
Otherwise, we remain lost and grasping through the darkness to find our way. Relying on our own senses and resources. While we may find the path, most of the time we fall to the wayside and traverse away from His truth and will.
