Come Follow Me 2023, Come Unto Christ, Devotional

Behold – the Lamb of God

On the next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
~ John 1:29, LEB ~

Many of us attempted to do what was necessary to overcome our own faults, weaknesses, fears, and anxieties. However, without committing ourselves over to living a mindful and crucified Christian life, we were falling short. Giving only what we had in making necessary change and appropriate decisions. Yet, feeling quite alienated and resentful. Disappointed and discouraged in the process.

A mindful and crucified Christian life presents each one of us with a choice: deny ourselves and take up our own cross to follow Christ. Or continue feeling hopeless and engage in self-blame and shame by not measuring up to our own (and others) expectations. By choosing to deny ourselves and commit to living a mindful and crucified life, we are letting go of those personal expectations, disappointments, resentments, and discouragements. One also becomes aware that this type of life of discipleship is one of an unfolding process and experience.

When we take up the Savior’s invitation to come unto Him and follow His teachings – we do so in order to learn how to live at peace with self and others. To this end, our personal responsibility is to apply those principle truths as a means to answer our questions: Now what? Is that all there is? How should I live? How am I able to feel complete? How does this make me a better person?

The promise of Christ is that we belong to our Heavenly Father. Placing our faith and hope in Him – we are saved from sin and death. This gives us hope for the future no matter how desperate our circumstances may appear. And it takes courage to live a mindful and crucified Life. It takes courage to follow Christ as His disciple and to grow in wisdom and faith. Our path is one that requires us to trust in the will of our Heavenly Father as we come unto Christ and follow Him. So long as we are engaging in doing the will of the Father, we are being perfected through Christ.

Today’s Thought and Reminder

Have you experienced a profound sense of humility as you consider the sacrifice the Savior had made for you? Today, as you come unto Christ and follow Him, do so in a spirit of humble devotion. For Christ humbled himself to fulfill the will and purpose of God by being the necessary sacrifice required to satisfy the ends of the Law. He died for each person. His blood shed for each individual. And His invitation to come unto Him and follow Him is one where he is waiting to walk with you through life.

As you approach Him today – remember the cost of His sacrifice and the blessings of His grace that gives us purpose and meaning as we are traveling along the path of righteousness.
