Come Follow Me 2023, Come Unto Christ, Devotional

Full of Grace and Truth

And the Word became flesh and took up residence among us, and we saw his glory, glory as of the one and only from the Father, full of grace and truth.
~ John 1:14, LEB ~

Christ’s invitation for all to come unto Him and follow after him is an invitation to partake in His likeness and image where we are imparted with His endowed loving-kindness, good-will, and favor that is certain and real. Of course, it begins when we deny ourselves and take up our cross every day in accordance with surrendering to the will and purpose of Him and our Heavenly Father. Since Christ shares in the fulness of the glory of the Father – His invitation is for us to share in the fulness of His glory as He shares in the fulness of the Glory of the Father. And since Jesus Christ is the expression of His Father, we, as His disciples, become the expression of Christ. Since we are being transformed into Christ’s image and likeness – and becoming the expression of Christ in our own lives – we have confidence and hope for what lays ahead. No matter what one may face in this life.

What does it mean for you and me to become the expression of Christ? To be full of grace and truth? It means that we experience life for what it truly is. Experience those moments of sadness that is tied to significant loss. Or experience those moments of bliss and happiness. We respond by remembering that Christ is the light that shines in our own darkness. Through Christ, we have the courage and wherewithal to pull ourselves out of those moments of darkness. We respond by showing gratitude and thanksgiving for all that He has done and blessed us with in our life. And the reason behind this is because of His loving kindness, good-will, and favor toward us that is real and certain.

Through Christ, being full of grace and truth, we become the light of Christ that shall not ever diminish. And thus bring the light to those dark days of our lives (and the lives of others) by turning to our Heavenly Father. We also turn ourselves toward those trusted friends and family who are of like-mind and are of themselves an expression of Christ’s loving-kindness, good-will, and favor that is certain and real. Sometimes we may even need to seek professional help and intervention if such distressing emotions become too overwhelming and powerful for us to manage through alone. All because Christ is full of grace and truth. Our beacon of hope and light.

As Christians, and true disciples, we sometimes may feel alone, vulnerable, abandoned and therefore prone to all forms of temptations. Specifically, when there is no true fellowship or firm friendships. Does one have a fellowship of believers who know us quite well? Know what really is happening in our own lives? Understand how we feel? The doubts, fears, and anxieties we are pressed down with. If so, those are precious relationships. If not – it is something each of us ought to work on and strive toward having in our own personal lives.

The joy of sharing our own intimate and personal lives with others helps us grow in spiritual strength, wisdom, insight, and understanding. We mourn with each other. We celebrate with one another. We discover similar interests and enrich our relationship with one another. And such relationships develop when we reach out and offer our own gift.

Christ is doing this exact thing. His invitation is reaching out toward each one of us to partake in His gift of fellowship and friendship. His offering and gift provide us a way to feel complete and whole. Christ, being full of grace and truth, is offering us the same measure of being filled with His grace and His truth.

In choosing the mindful and crucified Christian life means we are choosing a life where we find strength and hope. Find the capacity to grow and learn how to live with peace and joy in a world full of despondence and despair. We are learning to become full of grace and truth by applying the principle truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ into our own lives. It is not an easy process either. It requires personal sacrifice and daily discipline. However, how great shall be our reward when we come before Christ and know of a surety, we are like Him – full of Grace and Truth.

Today’s Thought and Reminder

Denying ourselves and taking up our cross every day is a discipline in which a person does not take lightly. In doing so – we are seeking to answer the question: What do you seek? Today, are you seeking to be filled with grace and truth? To be endowed with the loving-kindness, good-will, and favor that is real and certain? Are you truly desiring to be transformed into the image and likeness of Christ – to be an expression of Him in all that you are and do? This is the heart and truth of being a true disciple. To learn of the Savior, to apply His teachings into our lives, to submit to His will every day so that one is able to be the very essence and expression of Christ toward others.

If this is truly one’s desire – then it is the core essence of a true Christian. To become the expression of Christ that is a light unto all others. Being full of grace and truth. And it is a process of devotion, and discipline. There is no easy believism or cheap grace here. Either you are fully committed to become like Christ or are not.
