“To Fulfill all Righteousness”

But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it now, for in this way it is right for us to fulfill all righteousness.”
~ Matthew 3:15, LEB ~

There is a significant cost toward living a mindful crucified Christian life. We know it involves denying self. It involves taking up our cross each and every day. What some of us fail to comprehend is that a true mindful and crucified Christian life is a deep reflection of our faith where we willingly walk in obedience to all that our Savior has taught and done in His mortal life. As true disciples, and Christians, we must do our best to ensure that our actions are accurate reflections of our faith in Christ. Our attitude and behavior must be demonstrated, not by the words we proclaim, but by our actions. A mindful crucified Christian life is one of practicality where we are quick to act whenever we see an opportunity to serve our Heavenly Father.

This is exactly what the Savior did when he presented himself to John the Baptist. At first, John claimed that it was he who needed to be baptized. However, Jesus reminded Him, and it is a reminder for each one of us, that for the Savior to minister according to the will and desire of the Father – He must first be baptized so that He fulfills all righteousness. Thus, the Savior of humanity submitted Himself in faithful obedience to do that which was required of Him.

However, how often has each one of us found ourselves more interested in the fine points of particular dogmas and teachings? How often have we not considered the needs of those around us? Obedience is a spiritual priority for us to minister in the same manner as Jesus Christ had ministered. If we are not willing to humbly, and faithfully, submit ourselves obediently to the will of our Heavenly Father, then there is no amount of doctrine and teaching that is going to call others to come unto Christ and partake of those same spiritual blessings of the infinite atonement.

Are you wanting to live a richer and deeper practical Christian life? Willing to dig in and do what needs to be done when it needs to be done? Our Heavenly Father acknowledges and blesses those who submit themselves over to His will and desire. And that desire is for us to walk in faithful obedience to fulfill all righteousness.

Through our faithful obedience and willingness to submit to the will of our Heavenly Father, we begin the process of getting to know ourselves. Developing a resilient faith that is tough and strong. Our relationships are deep and meaningful with Christ and our Heavenly Father, as well as with others. Our vision is much clearer. Our sense of what our Heavenly Father cares about is imparted unto us because it is what is truly important. And we know that there are going to be adversity in life that we need to face and manage. Knowing who we are in Christ helps us face those challenges and overcome them.

It is time that we change our perspective and place faithful obedience as a priority of a mindful and crucified Christian life. Where does it begin? How are we to do this? By remembering those covenants, we made when we first came to believe in Christ and were baptized unto Him. Because it is this that we need to face – Christ obeyed the Father in all things. His submission took him to minister, heal, preach, and ultimately experience a cruel death. However, He broke the bonds of sin and death when he rose up the third day.

Where is your submission to faithfully walk in obedience to Christ’s teachings and the will of our Heavenly Father? This is quite an important concept to remember. The work required to build and sustain our faith in Christ is an ongoing process. Through Christ, we are filled with the Holy Spirit. We align ourselves in true fellowship with others. We faithfully search the scriptures, meditate upon them day and night and apply those principles into our own lives. We are consistently and constantly nourished by our Heavenly Father throughout our own spiritual journey and life.

And it is a joyful work where we are nourishing our faith. The invest in living a mindful and crucified Christian life is that which we make in growing through those spiritual disciplines. As we continue to build our life upon a foundation of faithful obedience to the will of our Heavenly Father, we will discover that the journey toward spiritual perfection and maturity lasts a lifetime. We are never fully grown because we are continuing to grow in faith. And it is this that our Heavenly Father wants us to do.

Today’s Thought and Reminder

Committing ourselves to living a mindful and crucified Christian life requires faithful obedience to the will and desire of our Heavenly Father. Just as Christ said that His need to be baptized to fulfill all righteousness – so also is our willingness to submit our lives and will over to the care of God leads us toward a life that is fulfilling all righteousness.

We must not let the forces, sophistries of men, and the desires of the world put us down. Neither cause us to feel discourage and doubt the promises of God. And much of these are entrenched within us. Therefore, whenever such things come up, we are willing to surrender them, put them to death, and move forward as we grow in faith. Onward moving toward spiritual perfection.
